  • Elegy for Jeremy Maclin

I love how people are now saying what I have all along. Maclin is nothing special. Not a difference maker.

What is Maclin's value? Good question. He's not an elite receiver. He's not Calvin Johnson or Demaryius Thomas or Dez Bryant or Odell Beckham Jr. or Julio Jones or A.J. Green.

He's not Antonio Brown or Nelson or Cobb or Alshon Jeffery or Brandon Marshall.

He's not what you would call a difference-maker. He doesn't draw double-teams. He doesn't have great speed or size.
The Eagles sought to keep wide receiver Jeremy Maclin but placed a value on him they would not exceed.

Maybe it is Kelly's system then. DeSean had a career year. Then Maclin, who isn't Desean, puts up very similar numbers.

One can hope. Maybe something like Andre Johnson, Matthews and Huff would be good enough. I don't know. Still no real deep threat unless Huff develops into one.

Right now, the Eagles have no proven QB, WRs or RBs. Will be fascinating to see what Chip cobbles together.

Id say Sproles is proven. Matthews has proven he can produce in the slot. Add the TEs to the proven "receiver" group. Outside of that, yeah, question marks abound.

Although, Cooper is proven too. Proven to be a bum.

In this O an argument could be made for the TE, (at least Ertz) is as valued as a WR on other teams.

We have a WR that is paid to be a downfield lineman, might as well have a deep threat TE, LOL

Sproles is situational. Cannot carry the load. Matthews has never been a #1 and has questionable hands. Tight ends are okay.

Yup. I am interested to see how Polk might do with more carries. I like his running style. I would still feel more confident with another, more proven back in the mix, too.

Sproles was one of Chips few good moves. But asking him to do more than fill in for a star at this point in his career is a short cut to the injured reserve list.

                    Haters gotta hate . .

Losing Maclin isn't the end of the world, but the guy performed pretty darn well while an Eagle.

While not irreplaceable, I'm not sure why the need to piss on him. He scored a ton of TD's while here, put up excellent numbers - both with and without Desean on the other side.

You seem to hate Kelly and love FF, yet somehow FF believed that Maclin was worth a shit-ton of dough. Good for Mac - he never did anything wrong during his years as an Eagle - not sure why you only seem to like the bad boy/outspoken players who cause issues.

You spent all season begging for the Eagles to not resign Maclin, now that they let him walk, it's a problem?

I specifically remember a thread where you said Matthews will clearly overtake Maclin, and that it's obvious that they shouldn't sign Maclin with a replacement like Matthews on the roster. You also said Ertz needs to be involved more. Now, Matthews isn't a #1 and Ertz is just ok? What's the deal?

Losing Djax, Maclin, shady is. No matter who the QB IS.

My opinion of Maclin ability exactly matches Domo's. Except I never liked his obvious jealousy of DJax.

Kelly is a far better game day coach but his overall results are still way short of Reid's. Will be interesting too see how this season plays out now that he's gutted the offense.

No, I agree with that move. Giving up Jackson and McCoy while paying Cooper..not so much.

I was opposed to DJax from day one, agree there.

Shady stings, but if Alonso pans out and Shady takes a nosedive in the next two years, then it stings less.

Of all the questions on O, the running game ranks at the bottom of my concerns. Chip's scheme has produced holes at both levels and the OL is supposed to be the strength of the team. Sproles and Polk both played well when given touches and they'll add another guy. I think they'll be able to run the ball.

The QB, development of Huff and ability to find a #3 WR will all determine if the passing game is fine or not. Year 3 is the year when it all clicks for the good ones (Cox last year) so I'm hoping Ertz turns into the freak we've been expecting.
