  • Chip developing a new type of offense in football

If Chip plays Sproles, Murray and Matthews at the same time with the former split wide while Murray is in the backfield, the mismatch would be from the lack of enough quality linebackers to account for the size.

When the Eagles had Shady, Desean and Maclin, they had the speed, and we thought that the mismatches would allow the team to march up and down the field. The Eagles did score points and gained lots of yards, but often the speed was negated in the redzone as the field got shorter and the press coverage was too much.

If Kelly's approach is to go big, then the elite speed would be sacrificed, but the other teams may be more likely to wear down from the physicality. Other defenses would not have the size to counter. Bradford's accuracy and the team's use of Ertz would be used to keep the safeties honest, though not as well as Desean and Maclin scared defensive coordinators.

If that Ruiz article is correct and Kelly was unhappy with Foles' missing on open deep patterns, he's going to want a guy that can get downfield because he thinks Bradford can hit him better.

I don't think he's so stubborn not to see the value of a guy who, as MyCock would say, can take the top off the defense.

Unless he finds another wide receiver or two, he's going to have to do something creative.

        Could he reign in Harvin?

Think he would look great in this offense

Too bad he signed with Buffalo.

I don't think we'll see anything out of the ordinary. We saw Sproles and McCoy together occasionally, but not too often. You weren't going to see either of them lead blocking for the other, so it didn't show up frequently as a strong running formation that teams had to respect.

If for some reason you put those three guys out there with Bradford, you'd have only 2 other skill people. Two TE, or two WR or 1 TE and 1 WR. Once in a while it could work, maybe, but nothing you'd see frequently.

Honestly, the guy whose development could have the biggest impact is Ertz. Like, by FAR. If defenses respect him as a run blocker, you can put this skill group out there: Murray, Celek, Ertz, Matthews and whatever WR emerges. That puts a defense in a little bit of a bind: Do you play base and risk the tight ends eating your linebackers up or do you go nickel and get run on?

If they had a QB, they would be really good. No OLine, either
