Yeah really dominated if the Wildcats were hitting some threes it completely changes the game.

Props to NCstate - Jay Wright needs to get better balance add a big and rethink is tourney routines. The wildcats were flat from the start.

They had three PF/Cs and so had lots of fouls to give. they used those fouls but it almost came back to bite them.

Nova shot > 90% from the FT line. The effect understandably became most apparent once the double bonus kicked in towards the end. That is also when Nova made their run.

Yes, at the rim, you have to give them credit. However there were lots of open looks from 3. They got penetration into the lane and often kicked to open shooters much like they usually do.

Only two of Nova's 6 good 3 pt shooters made any 3s! One of those was a freshman. The remainder of the 6 were 0-14! That includes one who shot 47% from 3 for the year and the co-BE player of the year.

It was just a weird game. It happens. It also happened in the game at Georgetown when they got blown out by 20. In the game vs GT in Philly, Nova blew out GT. If you live by the 3....

I don't recall them. At the end NCState missed foul shots and turned the ball over.

Nova had a substantial edge in turnovers. That's the way they play against teams with bigger front lines. Nova uses the trap and press during the game to cause additional fatigue in the opponent's guards. This becomes apparent at the end.

This also takes a few seconds off the shot clock and results in some turnovers.

Nova is usually deep in the backcourt and so their guards are still fresh at the end.

The game reminded me of Nova's upset loss to St. Mary's a few years ago in the second round. St M had two talented 6-11 PF/Cs. Nova was very undersized but had great depth at PG. St M lead by double digits almost the entire game. However, towards the end a fresh, young Malik Wayns came in and was blowing by the St M's guards. He almost single handedly got them back in the game. Nova tied the game in the final minute or two only to loose the lead on a bankshot 3! It happens.

The reliance on the 3 may actually increase next year. JV Pinkston's used an array of low post moves but was not much of a shooter this year. His replacement at PF/4 will be Jenkins, a wing 3 pt specialist. The presence of Jenkins should keep opponents from parking two PFs in the lane and allow more room for Nova's guard's to get to the rim.
