  • I've been to Kentucky's arena

It's attached to a shopping mall. Literally the arena is part of the mall.

I can see how they sell it out on game day but the whole area was pretty desolate while I was there. Änd this was with an academic conference going on in the city.

I was at their place in 1983 but I suppose it is not the same building. I don't remember the mall. Both UK and Nova were ranked in the top 10 early that season. I recall that it was packed and intense; however people were Southerners--civil & sane--unlike some on this site. Nova lost which made me more confident I was going to get out alive and with my drums in one piece! That was a long bus ride but liquid refreshment was available.

That's what we're gonna call it. "I Got Worms!" We're gonna specialize in selling worm farms. You know, like ant farms.

          What a thoroughly disappointing place

Was there 9 - 10 years ago. I flew into Louisville and drove to Lexington. I was so impressed with the beauty of the many horse farms I passed on the trip. The closer I got to Lexington, the more I anticipated seeing an equally beautiful Kentucky campus.

What a let down! Not a country setting, but a poor excuse for a downtown facility. Drab and lifeless, it left me scratching my head as to why.

Yes that was my experience too, except in the bus I had enough after an hour of it.

No actually it was a game early in the season. I don't think there were as many early season tournaments back in the 80's or at least Nova did not participate in them during the two years I traveled with the team.

In one of those years Nova went down to then AP#1 UNC even though there was a major snow fall here. I missed the bus due to the snow but Nova upset them that day.

That was back in the Rollie M days when Nova fairly often upset higher seeds in the NCAA after doing poorly in the Big East tournament.

You would not guess it from the past few years but Nova has more upset wins in the NCAA tournament than any other team in the nation.

I think that is due to the tough Big 5 back then. While other teams were scheduling creampuffs, the Big 5 teams slugged it out for the Philly bragging rights. That usually hurt Nova's record, left them with a lower seed and with an opportunity for an upset.

Now with the weaker Big East and weaker Big 5--especially Penn--Nova will likely be somewhat overrated like they were this year. I also think Jay's system, with very few Bigs and reliance on the 3, lends itself more to regular season wins rather than NCAA tournament wins.

Hey! Don't you ever say that again! She is the love of my life! The blood in my veins! We belong together till the mountains fall into the sea, till the heavens collide! Or until I get sick of her and need to move on. You hear me?

We don't usually pick up hitchhikers. But I'm-a gonna go with my instincts on this one. Saddle up, partner!
