I will be one of the few who will tell you that the Eagles got themselves a very good, still young QB in Sam Bradford.
Of course he has to stay on the field but as Chip said if not for the injuries he would never have been traded.
I am not here to belittle Foles either as I think he is an adequate NFL QB and I have hopes that with all the young talent my Rams have amassed he could take us to the playoffs if he improves on some of his 2014 issues, namely back foot throws and leaving clean pockets because he “thought” it was collapsing, but we shall see.
About Bradford I will tell all the nay-sayers that when healthy he is a more mobile QB than he gets credit for. He throws exceptionally well rolling in either direction, has a great release, is very accurate and has a great deep ball. Also, make no mistake about this; he has a HUGE chip (no pun) on his shoulder after Fisher & Snead lied to him about him being their guy as they tried to make him take a pay cut to increase his trade value.
Some back ground. Sam would have been the #1 pick to Detroit if he had come out in 2009, then even after getting hurt early in 2010 at OU he was still the #1 overall pick in 2010 by the Rams. His biggest issues in St. Louis are that he was drafted by the worst roster of perhaps all time, certainly in the last 30 years…and they never got him a go-to wr. Add to that the NFC west turned in to a murders row of defenses and well, it wasn’t exactly a recipe for success for the offense.
In 2013 they added Tavon Austin, Jared Cook and Sam was getting more comfortable with the new guys. He was 14/4 td/int at the time of his injury and looked for all to see like he was ready to explode.
I was worried when he came back last summer but he was outstanding in camp and both PS games he played he did not look the least bit nervous in the pocket. He was growing in his trust with new wr Kenny Britt and Brian Quick was FINALLY emerging as a big play threat…then he tore his ACL in Cleveland.
What does this all mean? I wish I could assure you all that he will stay healthy this year and for the rest of his career I really do but what I can assure you is IF HE DOES STAY HEALTHY no Eagle fan alive will question why Foles was traded for this cat, he IS that good.
Good luck to you guys and I will certainly be keeping an eye on things around Eagle-land because of my appreciation for who Sam is and what I know he will become.
