mathis makes around six mill a year. i remember thinking the eagles were crazy giving him that much money. he lived up to the contract but he misses games here and there. he is worth exactly what he gets paid. right now he has the eigth biggest cap hit for a guard right behind iupati and mankins. if he thinks he should be paid more than those guys hes delusional. teams dont even want to trade for his contract because he is 33.

for someone nearing the end of his career, I'd think he'd just want to prolong his career. By asking for a raise he has put a target on his back.

It's a gamble, not sure why he did it unless advised by Rosenhaus.
