  • Dear Phil Sheridan: With all three HOF worth safeties retired, here are the stats

    Ed Reed: Games(174); Int.(64); F.F.(11); Fum. R.(13); Sacks(6); Tkl(531); Ast.(112)

    T. Polamalu:Games(158); Int.(32); F.F.(14); Fum. R.(7); Sacks(12); Tkl(581); Ast.(197)

    B. Dawkins: Games(224); Int.(37); F.F.(36); Fum. R.(19); Sacks(26); Tkl(895);Ast.(236)

Statistics that favor Dawkins: Ed Reed (12 seasons) would have to play another 9 seasons to have as many tackles (including assisted) as Brian Dawkins (16 seasons). That's mind boggling. Dawkins averaged 3.99 solo tackles per game, while Polamalu averaged 3.09 a game. When looking at the Combine Turnover Stats (Int., F.F. and Fum. R.), Dawkins also wins with .41 per game while Polamalu has .33 per game. The sack stat speaks for itself.

Because of a recent ESPN article by Phil Sheridan, I felt compelled to lay the numbers out there. Phil Sheridan, of all people, was unable to make a compelling case for Brian Dawkins. How fucking sad ...considering he is a professional in the city of Philadelphia.

    Phil Sheridan's weak sauce.

ed reed is the no-brainer in the group. the best safety of the three and he'll make it in easily. probably first-ballot.

dawkins was better than polamalu, which the statistics support, but polamalu will go in first because of reputation. the hair, the fact that he played for pittsburgh, his two rings, and all of the articles referring to him as first-ballot...they'll be self-fulfilling. dawk deserves it ahead of polamalu but i won't be surprised if he never makes it.
