  • Famous People Spotted on Airlines

On a slightly different subject, I got to thinking about... People with whom I've shared a flight:

    Leslie Nielson
    Milton Berle
Tom Weiskopf (sat next to me and complained about environmental lawyers and laws)
    Lt. Uhuru
Miss Arkansas and Miss Alabama (actually sat between them in a three seat row they were on their way to SLC for the Miss USA contest and were required by contract to wear their banners across their chests. Miss Arkansas was funny and nice and Miss Alabama was totally a beauty queen who couldn't talk to anyone. She's probably a housewife in Mobile now.)

Okay I'll stop now with these stupid threads.

I'm not much of a celebrity spotter, so it's likely I've been on flights with famous people and never even known.

But I did sit across from Bob Knight on a flight from LaGuardia to Indianapolis. This was back in the late 80's. This plane had 4 seats with a little table between them in the front and Knight was directly across the table from me.

Did he talk to you at all?

I was on a flight with a Big Ten ref and he told me Knight never gave him any problems. The guy was shorter than McCarthy.

I've seen a few but the only one I remember off the top of my head is Al Franken ... out of Tampa coming back from Spring Training.

Yeah, we chatted a little. It would have been kind of rude not to as we were literally facing each other. Stuff like why I was going to Indianapolis, etc. He was with some guy that appeared to be some sort of a writer.

              a few

              IG's beloved Bill Walton
              gay actor Alan Cumming
Paul from Peter, Paul & Mary

And my favorite story, me and a guy from work (big giants fan) are boarding a flight to Chicago and Mike Strahan is in first class. My friend stops and says "hi champ, can I get your autograph?". Strahan didn't even look up, said nothing and just motioned to keep moving. Bwaa... burned!

Boarding a flight from Vegas to Philly around 97/98 and noticed Dr. J sitting in 1st.

Told the two guys I sat near and they had never heard of him. Disheartening.

I went back up before take off and shook his hand and thanked him for some of my best childhood memories. He said thanks and God bless.

A friend of mine, a huge Yankee fan when he was a kid, was at the Stadium with a ball and a Bic Click. Reggie Jackson is signing stuff, and he hands him the ball and pen, but the pen is not clicked so that you can write. Reggie snorts and hands the pen and ball back to the kid, unsigned. Better than getting the autograph.

Only autograph I ever got was Muhammed Ali's. I had him sign it, "I hate roaches."

                    Miss Arkansas and Miss Alabama?

I'd probably get stuck between Kelly Green and Irish George fighting over the last half of an Aramingo.

Pat Croce, while flying to LA. Didn't try to chat with him, though.

I've never met any famous people on a plane

but I did threw down a few beers with Gary Sheffield and Dwight Gooden back in 86. Gooden was a childhood friend of my cousin in Tampa.

I Saw A Famous Person On One Of My Frightening Plane Rides

I was looking in the mirror in the rest room.

                            Handsome devil, he was.
