  • Still don't understand the Pick of Hicks in 3rd

I get he was highest rated played on board. But, they had to know he would be around in 4th round based on his injury history, tenure at Texas, and doing their due diligence.

Colossal fuck up not taking best OL available in 3rd round. and using 4th on Hicks. Pretty sure nobody was taking him.
Tre Jackson was there for the taking. They should have done so.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but for them (not us) to use a 3 in a guy that it sounds like nobody else had anywhere near that high and ignore some good OL In 3rd round was just stupid.

Maybe they keep Kendricks for this year, groom Hicks as a replacement and let Kendricks walk after the season's over. Adds depth to the LB core and ST units.

At first, I was annoyed by the pick because I thought it was a reach. But my guess is that they forecasted trade options in round 4 and knew they wouldn't get another crack at him.

That would really surprise me but the draft is a fluid fucked up 3 days.

he graduated from HS There so they may have some additional insight into him. I know he was a top 10 recruit coming out of HS

I think Chip was willing to reach to get a player who could be the next DeMeco Ryans.

Ryans' skills are diminishing fast, but Chip just gave him an extension because he values him as a 'coach on the field.' I think having that player is an important part of what Chip and Billy Davis are willing to do. I read pre-draft stuff describing Hicks as being capable of turning into a similar type of presence.

Just like Chip was willing to overpay for a QB for his offense, I think he's willing to overdraft to get a possible future 'QB of the defense.'

That being said, I also read one guy who questioned Hicks' instincts, so...
