Like he did with DeSean Jackson?

If Kelly hadn't been able to do a McCoy deal, would he have released McCoy outright?

Good question. Maybe another trading piece to use to move up in the draft.500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

I wonder how the off-season would have gone down if the Eagles had made the playoffs.Blue Chip College Football - Coach Your College to the National Championship

Probably, but I don't know what.....
....the financial implications would have been because I simply don't give a sh*t about the finances of football teams. It's pretty clear now what McCoy was and is. To me, he was showing signs of slowing down (and I fully recall what the situation was with our offensive line, especially at the beginning of last season).

Here's another to think about--the players he released were those that refused to restructure their contracts or made threats to hold out--Jackson after the playoff loss in the famous--"My contract needs upgrading"; McCoy saying that he would restructure but "I'm not taking any less money"; Todd Herremans who refused to restructure his contract and took a contract from the Colts that was essentially what the Eagles wanted him to cut his contract to; same with Trent Cole--they asked him to restructure and he said they couldn't agree on "what I'm worth"--his numbers weren't revealed but you can bet that he wasn't going to be making 9-10M like he was with the Eagles. Maclin chose KC's 11M over the Eagles 10M.
So Maclin must have been unhappy despite the fact that he posted career best numbers in Kelly's offense.
As Cliff Lee said when he spurned the Yankees for the Phillies in 2011--"What can I buy for 30M that I can't buy for 25M?

The same. McCoy had problems with Kelly that goes back to when Kelly was hired. First he was quoted as calling Kelly's offense a "college-style offense". Then there came the game against TB when McCoy was dancing in the backfield losing yardage and Chip lit into him on the sidelines telling him to "hit the hole". When McCoy fired back there was hole, Kelly looked at the film and then when he saw McCoy was right, he apologized to him in front of the team.
Enough of the Cooper stuff. They had a team meeting where Vick and Avant asked the team to give him another chance. They could have said no and Kelly probably would have cut him right there and then. But he let the players handle it.

NFL players are the most competitive human beings on the planet
They can't just turn off that competitiveness when it comes to their compensation. A lot of these guys measure themselves against other players not by their on field production, but by how big their contract is. Tough to find people who are motivated by winning.
