In America, and Texas especially, it is perfectly reasonable and rational to assume someone at that party is armed. Probably a lot of someones. The officers responded as if they were in a life-threatening situation, as they should have. You get optimistic, you die. Those two boys stepped towards the officer restraining the girl and he was correct in assuming they presented a threat. That was a rational response. He let them know there would be consequences. Also a rational response.
Black girls are never feminine enough to register for white people….
This is also true. The Jezebel stereotype is alive and well, and young Black women are seen as feral and filthy. It is 100% racist to assume any young Black woman you see in a bikini is a slut panting for it, simply because she is young, Black and female. There is no denying that this is a grotesque caricature of Black women, but that caricature exists in a social reality that offers some troubling facts about young Black women that cannot be simply dismissed, particularly in situations that could easily become life threatening. Black women engage in sexual intercourse, often with multiple partners, much earlier than their white counterparts. Black women mature physically at a younger age than their white counterparts. Black women are far more likely to give birth to children out of wedlock, at a much younger age than their white counterparts. Black women are more likely to be living in poverty as a result of these choices.
Facts are facts, and while it is unacceptably racist to assume every young Black woman you meet embodies the average, there are times when that assumption is not only warranted, but necessary. The officer was not at the pool party to recruit employees for the Department. He was there because Black kids were fighting, jumping the fence and refusing to obey directions from either officers or adults. His job was to prevent that situation from escalating. He did that. He engaged in rational racism to do so. Had this been at the trailer park, he would have engaged in rational classism and assumed the white trash kid carrying an ax wasn’t going to chop kindling.
To ask police officers or soldiers or guardsmen or anyone charged with putting themselves in physical danger to maintain peace and order to run their actions through an ideological purity test before taking them is not only impossible, it is asking them to bet their lives on being politically correct.
And the people asking the officers to do that are precisely those who risk nothing and indeed, stand to profit from their divorced-from-reality posturing. If we are going to pay people like Cooper to maintain that “…until white people begin to question the violent origins of [white safety], the police will continue in the name of “white safety” to go around terrorizing communities of color, mostly with impunity”.
Except that it’s not white safety that is at stake here. It’s “rich safety”. And Cooper is part of the well-to-do. Most of the feminist, left-wing media is rich. A million dollar apartment in NYC? There are no police officers getting paid that kind of money, or living in those digs. No soldiers either."
