The difference is that CCPete is claiming Kelly confirmed Mathis didn't want to play for a "highschool" coach and it's pretty damn clear that Kelly said he didn't want to be an Eagle because they wouldn't redo his contract.

He replied to himself ... so my reply was intended to be a response to the aggregate of his posts.

But I can see how that might have been unclear.

Interesting thing about all of this is that after "two years" of being potentially available, him and Rosenhaus are going to look pretty foolish if a big contract isn't signed.

It's like the Ship of Fools around here. Mathis wanted out. Chip confirmed he wanted out. Mathis and his agent know this probably won't result in a financial advantage for him. So why ?? Any objective non chip-licker knows why. He won't be the last. And Chip will continue to dump the disgruntled. He's gone thru all the all pros....except Peters, so he down to the scrubs.

Will try and get a back loaded contract to up the overall number, but I doubt that realistically he will make more than 11M in the next two years.

Hey Short Bus: He didn't want out after FA was over. He said he was going to report. He got cut.

Totally agree, wonder how he will like playing in Oakland?

You're probably right, no worries of winning anything there.

No football player not named Tom Brady would take less to play in the NFL. As others have said, he complained for 2 years about a contract that he signed. Personally, I think he's an idiot for chancing his 5.5M salary on a chance some team will give him more. What you don't know is that teams talk to each other when a player is cut. Why do you think no team is banging down his door to sign him? He didn't have to pass through waivers, he became an instant UFA. And still no team wanted to sign him.

He then claimed he didn't ask for a release from then until he got cut ... as if doing that (but still skipping voluntary workouts) made him pure as the driven snow.

I'm not sure if Kelly intentionally waited to limit Mathis' prospects, or wanted to see what he would do vis a vis voluntary workouts, but it appears this got personal.
This whole idea that the Eagles owed Mathis a duty to release him at the peak of free agency is ludicrous. This type of gratuity is almost always reserved for players who the team intends to cut for financial reasons. Reid did this for Westbrook about five years ago when it was obvious the Eagles werent gonna pay him the eight mill or so he was due. It gave Westbrook the chance to get the most he could from his next deal.

Mathis' situation is the exact opposite. The Eagles were happy to honor his contract but he was implying that he was upset and gonna hold out for a restructured deal. Kelly tired of his routine and decided to cut him. Who gives a shit when that ultimately took place?

Exactly on the Westbrook deal, same thing happened when they let Dawk go to Denver for the big paycheck
