  • I remember the "good" bad Phillies

    The Phillies were so bad during all of my childhood, save the trauma-inducing 1964, that it was the norm. What you did as a fan was celebrate certain moment and certain players. And they always supplied the moments and the players.

    This year's "bad" bad Phillies have just been pure suck, for the most part...although last night's game was really entertaining...prompting this post. I would only wish our current bad Phillies did it more often to give us reason to watch. I only watched last night to see J-Roll. Glad I did.

    Anyway...I remember this one in '65...a 500 plus-ft. blast by Dick (Richie, Rich) Allen. A great moment supplied by a great player.

    Officially awaiting Douchebagnacht II since

    Use to go to games there;

    When it was Shibe Park. Saw Robin Roberts and Bobby Shantz pitch games there!

      I know I mentioned it before but my first Phillies game was at Connie Mack in '69 as a nine year old kid and the Phils lost a wild 19-17 slugfest against the Reds. I remember Dick Allen coming to the plate in the first inning and receiving a mixture of cheers and boos and then he proceeded to hit a shot off the Ballantine scoreboard in right-center. Before the game I saw them ushering Ashburn to the booth which was quite a thrill at the time.

      Cincinnati Reds beat Philadelphia Phillies (19-17). Aug 3, 1969, Attendance: 13181, Time of Game: 3:29. Visit Baseball-Reference.com for the complete box score, play-by-play, and win probability
