A green being "re cut" and "cut at a lower height" which was what Andy North said are two different things asshat. That also was during the wind delay. Not at all what I was referring to as Andy North's comment was made on Sun am.

He literally said that the green is cut at a different height of cut due to the fact is was near the water. I took note of this comment due to the fact myself and my parents have owned a golf course for 30 years and I have been the superintendent for over 20 of them. This type of thing doesn't happen unless there is something like damage on the green and try to grow the damaged area in that has been seeded. The comment by North was that this was done to make the speeds the same. Part of the challenge of the Old Course is that all the greens arent the same speed due to the type of grass, and the fact that they are grown in "parent material" as opposed to USGA spec greens that most greens are built on. Most golf announcers make uneducated comments on golf course maintenence that are wrong. They should stick to describing the swing and golfers mindsets.

I don't know him and I guarantee that neither does Andy North. But it is my opinion that it is highly unlikely that they cut one green at a different height, not impossible, but very unlikely.

I'll take your word that it's unlikely they cut it that way ... but I'm finding it hard to believe that a two-time US Open winner and current ESPN golf commentator couldn't have a conversation with the greenskeeper at St. Andrews.
