Really depends on her interests. I believe Madrid is a world class city not unlike Philadelphia in that the attractions there are very underrated by snooty people who are not familiar with the city.

So does your wife like the arts, or sports, food, or general give and take in a city? Madrid has all of these things.. but isn't too spectacular with the scenery... having said that there is some spectacular scenery very close by.

sounds like she's looking for a pre-set tour of the city (bus, walking) where she can get a good overview. Not into sports but certainly arts, food, architecture, history.
