I'm gonna pass. Mayer is a good technical blues player, but he is no Trey. And Phil is the only surviving member who can still adequately play his instrument and he's not involved with this.

If they put a tour together and come around I'll definitely check it out (hoping for a "Your Body is a Wonderland" encore). Can't do that Halloween show though. I'm with Roth in that I don't think Mayer can match what Trey was able to do.

I have to say though - and this is just my opinion - I think it is a little tacky for three out of the four to turn around and play again after Fare Thee Well. It's basically the same thing. $$$$

          Bwahahaha!

So did I and I love music. Never listen to talk radio in the car. Always music playing in the car, in the house. I gave it a chance too. Just don't like it.

No Phil, and Im fine with it

Mayor is an Ok guitarist; Halloween in NYC should be a blast...will go for sure...If it wasn't all about the money they would have had a full tour with the other band...Ohh well,,the beat goes on..

There are too many permutations to count. And one way or another, they will be performing until they finally expire. Same shit, different day.

And after seeing one version live, and watching some of the Fare Thee Well shows via streaming, I'm not sure that Weir and/or Lesh shouldn't just go gracefully into retirement. They're still okay, but they are a shadow of their former selves.

                  Bobby especially ..

he has really slowed up...sometimes his voice just wont hold up a whole show,,,Phil still Kills it on the bass for sure...I would say the 2004 tour as THE DEAD were the shows to catch,,that was the best they sounded Post Jerry...Joans beach Acoustic shows were special too, been hit or miss since then...

His rendition of Days Between nearly put all of Merriweather to sleep. And he pretty much repeated it in Chicago.

I talked to a well-connected ticket broker before the Chicago shows and he said the Dead were really blown away by the response. He also predicted more shows even before the Santa Clara shows were announced
I think they went into it thinking one thing and changed their view after seeing the overwhelming response. Makes sense too because neither GDTS nor ticketmaster were prepared for the onslaught

It certainly appears a bit untoward, but I can't blame them for doing what they love. (Playing live music)
Some will ascribe it to a $$ grab, but I don't think that's the musicians' motivation - they all have plenty of cash.

It certainly is the motivation of the promoters, venues and brokers. So be it

Fair enough. I know it's not just about the money. There's just something weird to me about billing Fare The Well as the final shows when it really isn't the Grateful Dead to begin with and then having almost the same group playing together months later.

Couldn't a 100 year old geezer still play bass the same?

All you gotta do is stand there like a statue and pluck
