Pretty sure C Kelly looked at Saturday night's tape and realizes the read option with Bradford at QB has to be altered in some capacity. He cannot take "red dragon street legal" hits and last the season.

    Love the defense.

      This.

I cannot go all in until we get an assessment of the Eagles donut situation. We know what happened last year with the "holiday donut".

I don't hate the roster turnover and I appreciate him going for it at QB because Bradford is 10x the QB Foles is. But leaving what amounts to open spots at Guard(s), Safety and Corner feels crazy. I still find it hard to believe that Carroll wasn't better than Fletcher last year, but is this year.

Like everyone else said, still better that FF.

I was talking with a very good friend of mine yesterday and we were reminiscing about the 2008 Phillies and Chase Utley.

The topic came up that at least Harry Kalas got to see the Phillies win it all one more time before he died. The topic also came up that we may never see the Eagles win it all before we die.

              Bwah!

              Holiday Donut

Edited to add: If Chip Kelly is good enough to overcome the Holiday Donut issue he's a certified genius.

I don't understand how a read option in the pocket is any different from a playfake and why the knee rule doesn't still apply until the QB leaves the pocket.

I don't either. Some people are saying it was illegal other people are saying it was legal.

the rule seems to be a little confusing to the players as well. With that in mind, there is no way I'm going to expose my 2 time torn ACL injured quarterback to hits like that if I don't need to.

Defensive players will smoke a QB every chance they get.

The thing is it definitely seemed to me like he was going for the knees. Whether it was legal or not it was definitely a cheap shot in my mind.

I completely agree you don't want to be exposing a QB like Bradford to that sort of thing.

                      What I mean is....

.....teams with good, ball-control offenses will be able to keep the Eagles offense off of the field, thereby neutralizing them. This all comes down to our defense. If they're decent, we'll be good.

I hope you are correct. It's been close to 50 years, and we can't all continue to wait for
an SB victory. I'm with you it may well be this coach. We'll see this year.

On the topic, there have been yearly calls to blow up the team. Now it's been done, and the initial results look promising. At the very least, there was no attempt to just tweak a team into contention, there was a complete effort to build something competitive from bottom to top.

I don't know how it will work out, but I'm willing to support any change to an approach that wasn't working.

That makes sense. If the preseason look is anything to judge by (and I doubt that it's a total indicator), the interior runs, which tend to be the bulk of the ball control mindset, didn't work against our defense. The slashing, cutback versions that ripped off 8-10 yards per carry were more of a problem. But of course, we were looking at some pretty basic defense, and I expect things to change a bit once the scores actually matter.

It appears the defense will be much better than last year.

He just got personnel control this year. If they suck next year, then I'll jump on the hatewagon.
