Trey Burton will replaced TGP's beloved Celek

As the number 2 TE by years end. I'm a Burton Blower.

    Bwah! I hope you're right.

It would mean Burton has become the next Tony Gonzalez.

Celek had a nice run here, but he's toast. Burton is a playmaker! I expect at least 5 TDs from him this year.

Yes! Hopefully Seelick doesn't make the 53

In what is sure to be a run-heavy offense, Burton's still too raw as a blocker. Assuming Ertz is #1, Celek provides a different skill set that Chip values. Burton doesn't receive as well as Ertz or block as well as Celek.

Plus, Kelly has a man-crush on Celek. He's staying and seeing significant (50% or more) snaps.

To be honest the last year Reid was here I thought Celek was washed up, slowed down a lot, missed balls, just seemed old.

Then Chip comes along with his magic elixir smoothies and Celek looked like a new man, pretty sure he's here for at least this year.

So we agree Celek will have a diminished role.

Burton has definitely bulked up, I think he was RB at Florida (he didn't play TE) so he still has a ways to go. I think he'll be more of a factor than you think, maybe right out the gate in Week 1 since Ertz will probably be out.

                I doubt it

Celek (6-4 255) can do one thing that Zach Ertz (6-5 250) and Trey Burton (6-3 235) struggle to do, and thats block. Trey Burton is a converted QB/FB/WR who has bulked up to 235 lbs. He's a pass catching TE. Teams typically have a blocking TE and a pass catching TE.

Celek is a bum. Why is anyone even talking about him?

If he doesn't, I'll be very disappointed, as that will mean that Ertz is either hurt or not turning into the complete TE we need hm to become.

I agree. James Casey also made some plays as the TE#3, and I think Burton has better upside. But how are you going to find significant targets for this guy? Sit Ertz? Go heavy on TEs and sit down Agholor or Matthews? Go pass-happy and ignore the 3-headed monster at RB?

Burton's a player, but the report's of Celek's demise have been greatly exaggerated.

If the offense runs smoothly at the tempo they want to run, there will hopefully be plenty of targets to go around.
