I am thrilled for all you guys who enjoy it...just not my thing. I am amazed at the growth of it. Pretty much just another form of gambling that is legal. I can see why the NFL promotes it.

Come on ... they're making money off it, but the NFL wouldn't have gone under if Congress had called a spade a spade and defined it as gambling.
EDITED TO ADD: Or even if it didn't catch on at all.
People would have been simply been doing what they were doing before ... betting their office game card, in casinos and with bookies.Last edited by slag; 09-09-2015, 05:01 PM.Obscenity is the last refuge of an inarticulate motherfucker.

Of course they aren't going under, but the revenue from FF is immense and the league counts on it and so do their advertisers
I saw a graph that showed the average NFL fan spends about $ 100 on NFL stuff in a season, while a fantasy player spends $ 275
There are also a ton of casual fans that wouldn't give a rats arse about the NFL if not for their fantasy team(s). Take fantasy away and the revenue picture looks a lot different and so do the ratings

i just hate what it's become. i remember the 2011 season opener i was freaking out over brandon graham's fumble recovery return for a TD and some dude at the bar asked me if i had the eagles D on my rotisserie squad. i hate that it's why people watch a terrible thursday night game between the titans jaguars. fantasy nerds spent more time obsessing over marginal lineup changes than they do actually watching games. i think fanduel takes things to a new level. i remember when i had class fanduel freaks. they really spent more time on that per week than it would have taken to have watched a whole slate of games on sunday.

True story: Back in 1998 when this fantasy shit was getting popular, we had a draft at the workplace. I told the coworkers that I didn't want to be part of it. A guy got hurt and had to go to the ER, he asked me to draft for him. He was a Foreskin fan, I drafted all eagles for his team. 27 years later, he is still pissed.500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

I'm done
I played fantasy football since 1993. I remember nerding out at the bar picking teams, and cracking up when some guy who didn't know much about the NFL chose Marion Butts with the #1 overall pick.
Fast forward to today, and it's like many have written...super-commoditized, NFL-driven, and makes you watch (or at least pay attention to) games that suck.
I gave it up this year so I can just have fun being a fan. I also gave up making weekly straight-up picks in a pool. Looking forward to a great Eagles season, even if it has the obligatory kick in the nads.

The one and only time I got involved in it was two seasons ago when a friend kept bugging me to join one(of the handful he was in) one of his leagues. I somehow landed Rodgers and Shady in the draft and I started the season 3-0 and I was kinda enjoying it. That being said, I wasn't working hard on it since I wasn't taking it too seriously. If you want to do well in FF you have to invest some serious time on it and I just will to do it. I understand it's appeal but it just wasn't for me.

The only fantasy football I like is IGGLEPHANS fantasy football.
Where you get ripped for drafting players on other NFC East teams and for starting players going up against the Eagles.
I've had a lot of fun with that league over the years. Kelly Green learned his lesson.
Maybe we should codify the rules next year... no players from other NFC East teams and cannot start players who are facing the Eagles.
The main thing I like about it is that it makes me keep up with what is going around the league.
I'm not a gambler, so have I no interest in other fantasy football. You are right from watching the ads on tonight, it's incredible how big the gambling aspect has become.--------
