  • It's a very odd Monday mornng for me.

For the last few years I've grown more and more disenchanted with the NFL. Everything about this once great league is slowly descending into the pits. Pick anything: the commissioner, the owners, the rules, the players, the officials (especially), the outrageous prices to park and attend.

Yesterday's pathetic showing by the Iggles just about did it for me. It was about the worst display I've ever seen on offense. I still have no idea what was going on.

But once in sunk in entirely, I was calm. I actually had a great night's sleep last night. A showing like that in the past would have kept me up most of the night. In true Iggles parlance, "for who, for what?" I believe I've finally re-claimed my life back from this shit NFL.

For well over 50 years one of my great enjoyments in life was reading the Monday morning sports section at breakfast during football season. Today I glanced at the front page of sports, scanned the report on the Eagles game, checked the beisbol scores and went on to the comics section. I just have no interest in what happened yesterday.

I'm not saying I am giving up on my beloved Iggles, only that my mindset has been greatly altered. It's not that I don't care, I just don't care nearly as much. This new, shitty version of the NFL just sucks.

Now I have to go check my Fan Duel/Draft Kings results.

    Hey OB,

I think the important thing is to keep things in perspective. Like you I've been a big fan for many years, and have been becoming dismayed at what the NFL has become. But I still try to have fun.

I slept well last night but today I got the news that an older, esteemed colleague passed away this morning. This is a person who did a lot for the world. Hell, he did a lot for me. He had a long, successful and great life, but that doesn't make the moment less sad.

It just puts the Eagles bullsh*t into perspective.

Except for Fantasy League thing you sound exactly like me. I was pissed and screaming at some points during the game yesterday but eventually I got quiet as that offensive display was almost comical. Hell, I could watch a local pee-wee game with better execution than what was displayed yesterday.

The rules and officiating have killed this game for me. The officiating is too inconsistent trying to enforce these stupid rules and it's having a major impact on the outcome of the games.

The wife and I were howling at some of the comments by Barkann, Westy and Didinger during the postgame show. They were ripping the Birds bigtime and Westbrook tore Davis a good one as he doesn't understand why he doesn't adjust his scheme to better suit the personnel.

I understand. Last night's drive home was full of quiet introspection. The only thing that has kept me even remotely motivated to make the effort is the fellowship with like minded people at the gaytes and on the net. But times are changing, and I'm even starting to doubt the value of that.

            Headknocker.....one thing.

The fantasy league comment at the end was sarcasm in it's purest form.

I have never had any interest at all in that crap, and with it's current surge it just underlines another facet of the NFL to hate.

In a related note, I have always liked Edward Norton. This fine actor has now made my shit list. Like he really needs the extra $$$$ shilling for fantasy football.

              IE......Very sorry for your loss.

Another of the terrible things about growing older. You begin to see so many people go.

My ride back to NY last night with slag was definitely not quiet introspection! Hahaha. That's just not our personalities.

And the mood would have been a lot different had the Eagles had won.

Having said that, I agree with you that times are changing and the value of the game itself has been declining rapidly.

                  Sorry about your loss

One of my colleagues died here at work in the men's room not too long ago. They asked me to go down there with a portable oxygen monitor and test the atmosphere in the men's room while his body was still in there. Probably a CYA by our people since we have so much liquid and gaseous nitrogen in the place. He had a heart attack.

Opinions about the value of the game and your interest in it is directly related to the success of the team you root for. If the Eagles blew away the Falcons and Cowboys, no one would be posting about how less they seem to care about the Eagles and the league and the state of pro football.

Stop the whining. Start wearing brown paper bags over your heads at the games. Let's face it..as impossible as it seems to be we figured out a way to finally get rid of FF and somehow, trade down. If we are ever to see true hope for a legit SB TEAM, it will be with a quality GM who brings in a proven guy who can evaluate talent and a coach who isn't a gimmicky one trick pony.

All you do is whine and complain about everything. Stop being such an angry old man and move to the bright side. You need an attitude adjustment.

That's only partly true as the rules and horrible, inconsistent officiating have hurt the games league-wide. Yeah, it's more bearable if you're winning but it's pretty obvious (to me anyway) that the game we fell in love with years ago has changed....and certainly not for the better.

                            go away
John Erlichman, one of President Richard Nixon's closest aides, has admitted America's "War on Drugs" was a hoax designed to vilify and disrupt "the antiwar left and black people" when it was launched in 1971.
