Who thought up this expression anyway? When you think about it, it is really stupid. Sand is shifty. It moves a lot. It blows away in a gentle wind. You want to draw a line in something? Don't make it be sand. Why people keep using this expression over and over is beyond me.

Sand is the perfect place to "draw the line". It should move and in some cases.. Disappear complelely. Those who draw hard lines are stuck with them as people and situations change.
