  • All joking about sports science aside

I have the general sense that there are a lot of injuries to big players this year more than before.

I'm wondering if the restricted practice in the new CBA is actually causing more injuries because these guys aren't up to playing speed when the season starts now.

I saw Whitlock on PTI saying that there was a general sense around the league that offensive lines were/are not ready due to the CBA practice restrictions.

I've said for years that the strength training regimen has gotten to the point where the supporting structure of the athlete's body can't handle the stress. You can build muscle, but you can't build ligament and tendon. These guys are living their lives on the edge of human endurance.

I can certainly see that restricted practice might cause the individual players to spend more time in the weight room, or something to that effect. But to me it's just following the logical progression that began a long time ago.

I think this is a major factor

These guys continue to get bigger, stronger, faster but muscles, tendons and bones are still made of the same materials.

This has been a trend for awhile:

These players need to take sports science to the next level and focus on muscle balance. Quad dominance makes you more prone for other muscles to compensate increasing your propensity for ligament tears.
