  • Roob's take

I'm not a big fan of his oddball stats but fwiw...

Here’s a fact: Teams playing at least 41 minutes on defense are 5-109 in non-overtime games since 1983, which is as far back as Pro Football Reference has time-of-possession stats.

But because of Chip Kelly's uptempo offense — combined with the Eagles’ offense’s inconsistency — this keeps happening.

The Eagles are last in the NFL in time of possession. They are last in the NFL in numbers of offensive plays faced.

That's a stat you can't argue with...hits the nail on the head.

Roob is right the defense is out of gas by the 4th quarter, anyone can see it.

The hurry up offense is great, provided that you actually move the ball. Otherwise it's a killer for your defense.

The hurry up 3 and out back to the bench no-offense.

At least Sam threw the ball downfield in the .4 seconds the offensive line game him to do so.

            It's a wicked brew

The three and outs are brutal. The defense consistently allowing third and long conversions complete the recipe.

It would have been nice if Chip put in some quick throws to at least keep the defense honest.

I tend to agree with Chip that Time of Possession is a flawed stat. Its Offensive Plays v. Defensive Plays. That being said, we suck at that too.

It's a flawed stat only if your offense is able to generate first downs. Otherwise it's completely accurate.

I don't think the defense is any less tired after defending an incomplete pass that stops the clock than they are after stopping a running play which keeps the clock running. Plays defended is the more important stat. Though as I noted, we are HORRIBLE at that too. Yesterday was something like 79-51 which is borderline insane.
