I know the lawyers on this board wouldn't take her case.. unreal
When I first heard about this case, I thought it was about something like the injured woman didn't have insurance and this was an attempt to get an insurance company of the family of the child to pay for coverage. After reading your link, nothing could be further from that notion.
Looks like it was an effort to get her hooks into the life insurance proceeds her sister left to the boy. Disgusting.
I just wonder what the dynamics were between the aunt and who I presume is the brother in law. Maybe she suspects him of contributing to the death of her sister or he could have been an abusive husband. Either way, the lawsuit is an obvious reach and a total disregard for the nephew's well being.
“Our client was very reluctant to pursue this case, but in the end she had no choice but to sue the minor defendant directly to get her bills paid. She didn’t want to do this anymore than anyone else would. But her hand was forced by the insurance company. We are disappointed in the outcome, but we understand the verdict. Our client is being attacked on social media. Our client has been through enough," said her attorneys in a statement.

Yeah. It appears that her insurance wouldn't pay for it and left her the only option of going after the homeowners insurance covering her nephew. I had the feeling there was more to it than was first reported.
