  • They still have cigarette machines at bars in Spain

No smoking permitted in the bar but they still sell cigs. Average price at the machine I can see from where I am sitting: ~ €4.5.

I think it is at least twice that price in NYC.

There is a ban, but places that don't sell food (or food is a minor percent of their business) exempt.

I think McGillan's in Philly has one in the bar. I'm guessing $10.

There still is a fair amount but not nearly as many as there used to be, in Spain at least. But they had a very high level previously so I think it was relatively easy for them to reduce the number once they banned smoking at bars and restaurants.

What surprises me is the number of people I see smoking in NYC. Maybe you just encounter them more since they have been forced outside on the street.

Smoking was banned when I lived in NYC and you'd have to push through the mob of smokers to get into some bars. Some places even had enclosed awnings for smokers in the winter. I think there will always be an appeal/market for smoking.
