From what I understand, the law would have essentially granted a pot monopoly to a bunch of rich folks who funded the effort.

Legalization = good idea

Legalization w/ monopoly to connected individuals = bad idea.

Yeah that's what I thought as well reading the article. People probably would pass it if the $$$ distribution was more like other states that have legalized it.
