All Lurie has to do is take the GM role away and Chip will leave.

Money talks so its bullshit that he walks. He is making DOUBLE what he made at Oregon. Nobody in their right mind walks away from 14 mill, guaranteed. Chip might leave but Lurie will have to buy him out and allow him to sign elsewhere. He can actually double dip if he goes back to college. So Lurie either pays him for another season or finds a way for him to accept a lesser buyout and go to another NFL team.

There is no easy way out of this situation without paying this guy to go away or letting him stay on as coach.

harbaugh has a clause in his contract that forced him to pay the Niners money if he returned to college. waiving that clause enabled the 49ers to not have to pay him the final year of his deal. Kelly is owed far more money and an additional year of pay and it is unknown whether he has to buy out his dral to leave for college. this is a much murkier situation at this stage of kellys deal with the eagles.
