IG - are you doing looking to do it in/near AC? I'll tell you, it looks like the uber drivers really do well with conventions in town. No one wants to wait in line at a cab stand or similar and much like the limos, you can throw out cards to get fares pretty easily.

It seems like a good gig all things considered. I have heard that some shore towns are protective of their cabbies and since there's less traffic, they'll snag you more easily.

My cousin does for supplemental income and he enjoys it. He started out doing about 30-40 hours a week but he said that once he got into a pattern of where to be and when to be, he can work more like 15-20 a week and make better money per hour.

One thing I'd check into is how you are insured. I think if you only have personal liability and you get into an accident with a customer things could get messy. Uber may offer a blanket protection though.
