Chip actually mentioned Coughlin in connection with wanting to have longevity in the league.
The NYC area guys will remember that Coughlin had lost the locker room and was on the verge of being fired. Then he took a look in the mirror and changed a lot of his tactics. No more "if you're not 5 minutes early, you're late" bs, no more stupid fines - basically no more drill sergeant bs. I love making fun of the fire marshal as much as anyone, but I have to give him credit for swallowing his pride and making changes for the benefit of the team. The results speak for themselves.
Maybe Chip can do that too. Cut out the nonsense and win the team back. I don't think he is the genius we all hoped he would be, but he's not a bad coach, IMO. I think that would go a long way, not just with current players, but future ones as well. Then again, he'd still be the GM and that may be the biggest problem of all.
