  • But seriously, what this all means is.....

....we have another period of adjustment with a new coaching staff and we may not be competitive for another 2 years or more. Wah-hoo!

It means Chip Kelly won't be fucking up the roster. Works for me.

          I don't know.

I think they might actually have the bones of a competent team. They need to rebuild the OL, but they have the pieces for an above average defense, and some skill players that can do something. A good coaching staff could have them at least relevant next season.

I said this a long time ago.....

If he was going to blow it up, he should have blown it up from Day One. People would have understood that and the patience would have been there. I just think that he had no power to blow it up from Day One. So he blows it up in Year Three. WTF?

Totally agree. Have to fix QB and OL. That might take time, but at least it can start now.

We have some solid pieces on D, but the offense needs a total rebuild, and I'm glad it won't be Chip doing it.

Yeah I get you there. Lurie has to put good football people in place this time with a planb or we become Cleveland of the NFC.

So what is relevant next season?

Another 10 win season, maybe a playoff game? That's pretty much where we are now. This team lost 4 games this year by a total of 8 points or some shit.

...This league changes quicker than in the past....one thing for sure, Chips gutting of the team has ended.

We have talent on the team and the right guy can make it work....plus will have a pretty decent high pick this year.

It means that they realized irreparable harm had been done. At least it didn't take another year.

I think money cost us those guys. The year after he signed his new big contract that Howie gave him, immediately after the Saints playoff loss, Jackson said his contract needed to be upgraded to reflect the numbers that he put up in Kelly's system; Shady said, after numerous reporters asked him if he would consider reworking his contract, said that he "wouldnt take one penny less than he was owed"; Mathis had been angling for a new contract for 2 years--then when Kelly cut him--perhaps because he realized no one would give him the 5M he was set to earn for the Eagles, he said he woukd have reported to camp. I didnt see Maclin on your list, but he spurned the Eagles for only 500K. To put a twist on the Cliff Lee quote--"What can you buy with 11M that you cant with 10.5M"

Really though Kelly's undoing was he didnt adequately replace those players with players that would produce in his system. Look at all the players he released--theyve either been released, benched, or injured for their new teams.

$$ cost them Maclin and McCoy. DeSean and Mathis were the work of a coach/GM without a lot of experience dealing with disgruntlement.

I also think a real GM can get more than a washed-up LB for Shady McCoy.

Chip cared more about getting rid of him than getting value.
