Did they do any due diligence on him before the hire? There had to be red flags...the whole secret marriage things might have been worth asking about.

What secret marriage? Just because mediots didn't know he was married in the 90s until recently doesn't mean it's in any way relevant to his ability to coach. And it wasn't a secret. It's just that when he was married, Kelly was completely irrelevant as a football coach because nobody gave a shit about a position coach at Columbia.
Kelly's failure is a simple example of the Peter Principle. Six years before he was head coach of the Eagles he was Offensive Coordinator for New fucking Hampshire! That's nearly high school football. Rose way too fast.
