what makes this guy any better a candidate than Schurmur?

He was around some good coaches. He was around some bad coaches. Until last season he was never in a position of authority. He is a sabermetric geek who never played the game.

When you consider that Reid was on the Packers staff when they won the bowl and Goose hasnt won shit this guy seems like a poor mans Andy Reid.

Honestly I think I'd prefer Shurmur get the job over Gase.

He could be the flavor of the month. At least Shurmur has been a HC and knows how to navigate the shit show at Pravda. If chip Kelly area never happened id be more willing to want a guy like Gase.

There's always a leap of faith you have to take when you pick a new coach. Shurmur didn't fare well W/L wise in Cleveland but nobody does so cannot hold that against him.

Can't we talk Bill Cowher into coming back? Jesus.

I'd actually be OK with Shurmur. Not a sexy choice but I think the players like/respect him. Seems like a good guy who has learned a lot along the way (including from his mistakes). I don't care what he did in Cleveland. Nobody wins there.

I wouldn't hate it either as long as they get a legit DC.

WIP just reported that Rueben Frank said the Eagles DID NOT setup a second interview with Gase.

Since no teams have hired a coach yet, my guess is it is a weak head coaching pool this year.

Or they're waiting on guys like Hue Jackson who can't be interviewed yet.

All of them are waiting? I doubt it. If the pool was deep, a couple of teams would have made hires already.

Source: Adam Gase not scheduled for 2nd interview with Eagles

The Eagles do not have a second interview set up with Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase according to a league source. (AP)

                      REUBEN FRANK

Contrary to a published report, the Eagles have not scheduled a second interview with Bears offensive coordinator Adam Gase for their head coaching vacancy, according to a league source familiar with the Eagles' thinking.

NFL Network reported Wednesday that the Eagles were so impressed with Gase after his first interview that they had already scheduled a second interview with him.

But the source said no second interview has been planned yet with any candidate.

He said this doesn’t mean the Eagles weren’t impressed with Gase or they don’t consider him a good candidate.

It just means they are planning to go through the process and interview several candidates once before regrouping – probably at the end of next week – and determining who to place on a short list of candidates for second interviews.

Gase spent five years with the Lions, one with the 49ers and six with the Broncos before his one season with the Bears

The Bears ranked 20th this year in points per game, 16th in yards per game and 23rd in yards per play. They went 6-10 and didn’t have a receiver or running back with 1,000 yards.

But Jay Cutler enjoyed the best year of his career under Gase, finishing with a career-best 92.3 passer rating and cutting his interceptions down from an NFL-high 18 last year to just 11 this year.

I sure hope so. And you can add McDaniels, Patricia, Guenther, Haley, McDermott and Bevell to that list.

The current group of candidates They Have Chosen is weak. Im not impressed with how Lurie and howie have collaborated during this coaching search so far.

Well if the good candidates can't be interviewed yet then there really is much for Lurie and Howie to do right now, correct? Maybe I'm just not clear about the rules - are they allowed to interview guys on the playoff teams before the weekend?

I believe coordinators on teams on byes can be interviewed this week. In fact, I think Guenther either came in today or is coming in shortly.

I think they just requested an interview with Guenther, so no interview set up yet.

that's helpful. Interesting that McDermott isn't in yet.
