I give him a lot of credit for adjusting how he approached his athletes. That saved his job and paid huge dividends. There are some qualities he would bring that I think would benefit the Eagles right now. But I don't think he's a very good game day coach at this point in his career and, again, how much longer will he be here for? It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Here's a thought - what if Coughlin wanted to coach a few more years and he brings McAdoo with him as kind of the heir apparent (assuming McAdoo would make a good coach - I have no idea). Bring in Spags to run the d I guess? I don't know. Then at least you have consistency. Then again, you had consistency with Reid...

Dallas roaches and New York sewer rats. Only if he brings a young gap tooth and Osi with him. We also need a QB who throws off his back leg with his eyes closed but the wideouts still catch the ball.
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

haha yeah there's a lot to be said for Coughlin benefiting from that defense and a little bit of luck. Once that defensive talent dropped off, so did the Giants. Then again, I'd happily be the luckiest SB winner ever.

I'd prefer Shurmer if they are going to go the conservative route. Keep Bradford. Let Duce be OC if he is ready and bring in Spags to run a 4-3 again. I don't know enough about Pederson, although I don't get a good feeling there for whatever reason.

In some sense, Bradford is the key if they plan on being respectable in the next few years. Won't really matter who is coaching unless they hit gold in the draft.

Well Mac, I guess that would beg the question, is Bradford more inclined to stay IF Shurmur is the HC since they do have history together???

I'm fine with Shurmer. He already knows the obstacles.

Exactly, and seems to have a pretty good rep. with the players?

                Coughlin

I don't like Coughlin for us. Give me a younger guy who will be here for more than 3-4 years.

It won't happen, but a team like the Browns who desperately needs credibility, should throw a ton of money at Coughlin and then hire a hot-shot position coach as a coordinator with the plan being he takes over from Coughlin down the road.

You are just trying to prepare yourself in case it happens. I'd rather have Pederson or Schurmur (or even McAdoo) than FMB.

People have mentioned his age and how he wouldn't be here long term. The last coach was a "young up and comer" and lasted 3 seasons....the one before him was good enough to buy himself 12 years and we couldn't wait for him to be canned. If FMB is here for only 5 years and wins a Super Bowl who cares?

I have more confidence in Coughlin being able to right the ship than anyone else out there right now.

coughlin would demand respect from a group of players who laid down for the previous coach. whether the players were justified or not that type of bs ends the minute coughlin walks into the building, so thats good.

also, hiring this coach would lay much more accountability at rosemans feet. it would be real hard for roseman to blame any future failures on an accomplished coach like coughlin so thats another positive for me.

based on those things, and how unimpressive the other candidates are at this point, im intrigued by the prospect of hiring coughlin.

I tend to agree with your perspective here. I want the next coach to be somebody that has a track record and as such would put any accountability for failure at Roseman's feet.

I would like it for one big reason...

he won't be Howie's baby girl.

Hopefully he gets Lurie's ear and convinces Jeff to get a real GM.

And I'm sure that TG would bring along someone he would intend to have replace him in a few years.

                          They could do much worse.
John Erlichman, one of President Richard Nixon's closest aides, has admitted America's "War on Drugs" was a hoax designed to vilify and disrupt "the antiwar left and black people" when it was launched in 1971.

Plus... MAJOR advantage... we would get to laugh at the Fire Marshall every game!

That's an interesting take that I hadn't really thought about. I'm in favor of anything that pushes Howie closer to the door. Still, it's Coughlin.
