This Bowen piece makes me feel even worse about the eagles
This shouldn't be totally surprising to anyone, I guess. Lurie never ran anything of significance before he bought the Eagles. He was a professor and then an executive at his grandfather's company. He got lucky that Reid brought him 14 years of stability during which time he had to do very little. Now he is charged with making a pivotal hiring decision, flanked by guys whose track records aren't all that good. It makes sense that he would favor Pederson - Reid is the only truly successful hire he has made. Lurie has no particular track record of real leadership success. Neither do the people aiding him. I mean, what result should we expect??

I honestly have no problem with Pederson. Looking at the coaches that any has produced...for the most part, they do pretty well.
I mean, I even look at that playoff game against the Texans...they ran the option with alex smith to success.
“I am going to literally sodomize you on the field of battle. I am going to have non-consensual sex with your face and your butt. Then I’m going after your wife and kid”
Hmmm yeah, Andy does have a good track record with his coaches. That's true. At the end of the day, they could hire Vince Lombardi and I'd still be skeptical with the brain trust at the top. I don't know, I don't get a good feeling about Pederson but that doesn't really mean anything. I've been wrong plenty.
I think we are all at that point. I knew Lurie was going to put Roseman back in charge so
Any hire or moves are going to be greeted with a "yeah, well, Lurie is sill owner and that Rabbit eared twerp is still running the show so we are screwed regardless" feeling.
Anybody that comes here is a wait and see.
If they hire turn your head and COUGHLIN I'll be pretty bummed out. He's done. Lost his mojo. Hiring him sets them (not us) back even further IMHO

I disagree. The successful Head Coaches from the Reid regime were exclusively from the defensive side of the football and, to me, that makes them more Jim Johnson pupils than Reid pupils.
On the defensive side you have Harbaugh (77-51), Spagnuola (10-38), Frazier (21-32-1) and Rivera (47-32-1) while the offensive side yielded only two unsuccessful Head Coaches, Childress (39-35) and Shurmur (10-23).
Basically, what we can extrapolate here is the odds are very much against Shurmur suddenly becoming successful or Pederson being the next Rivera or Harbaugh as these two coaches really have little in common with the coaches from the Reid era in Philly who went on to success eslewhere.
Fair enough. Although there is more to being a head coach than x's and o's. You have to lead and manage grown men and all of the things that come with that. In some ways that is the most important aspect of the job (see: Chip Kelly). They would have learned that from Reid and, for all his flaws, that was one thing Reid did quite well.
I'm not going to hold Cleveland against Shurmur too much. Nobody can win there.

Getting the right DC is the key. FF wouldn't have had the success he had without JJ. Now in KC he is looking good under that DC as well.
What about a triumvirate of Pederson HC, Shurmur OC, and Lovie Smith DC? That might work. Keep in mind that Reid had his greatest success with JJ, he still had to make the choice of JJ. Not going to say I loved the Reid era, but he is in KC winning games with Alex Smith and some unheard of RB. Like a lot of parents, which is what a HC is in some cases, they are almost always smarter(better prepared?) the second time around. I would hope they will try to talk to one of the "hot name" DC types before they make a decision.

Next coach is a stopgap. I'll take 2-14 and Watson. The NFL is all about a franchise QB. Just gonna have to deal with a shit season.
