Never thought he would be the next to go. Fox News has already called the move for his replacement to be a 'showdown.'

      A shocking piece of news.

It will simply be outrageous if the Republicans in the Senate refuse to comfirm a well qualified nominee nominated by Obama.

Also, expect a lot of 4-4 "ties" in the big cases to be settled this spring... (of course any additional justice may die at any moment)

It'll be hard for him to get one in. This is now even more the campaign for the SCOTUS. If Obama doesn't get 3 nominees the next president might

          You watch Fox News?

I always thought better of you.
I only used to watch that crap when I was married and at the inlaws' house.

Well, if Obama doesn't nominate somebody who is confirmed then obviously the next Pres get to nominate the vacancy.

I just don't understand why Obama should not be able to nominate somebody he thinks is qualified and the Senate should not vote on that nominee.

I think better of myself often, but I rarely meet my own standards.

Obama's free to nominate someone. And the Senate is free to stall the nomination until after the election. Them's the rules. There would be a political cost to some Senators up for reelection in blue states, however. Wouldn't it be a trip if a Republican wins the White House but due to this the Democrats win the Senate and they stall the new President's nominee? They could even deny cloture with less than a majority, I think. Delicious irony.
