that would be Gaycardo and prolly Zoli...anyone else feel free to chime in...what is the best hack for taking rust off handlebar? Could not believe the amount of rust my beloved cruiser picked up over the winter. Internet says lemon juice or coke (imagine what it does to the lining of your stomach) and steel wool. But I dont want to scratch the metal either.

    Advice?

steel wool will remove to much Chrome

Id say the Coke is the way to go, but since they are mounted on the Bike might be tough,,,you may have to wrap the bars with some cloth then soak the material in the Coke or Lemon Juice..

the only other thing I can tell you is this,,I take care of my 20's on my acura with Tin foil,,,you use the dull side with a little water,,simply fold it up into a square,,then wet the rust and sand the rust with the unfinished side of the Foil,,it will create a grey slurry which will remove the pitting and rust " its a chemical reaction",,its an Old car trick,,may take a couple days to get through it,,,will need some elbow grease.

wet the rust with water or coke or lemon juice?

and the slurry frorms on the handlebars?

I may just have to spring for new handlebars and shrink wrap the bike next winter

Scotchbrite green scouring pad, aka "greenie weenie".

We use them all the time to take light corrosion off metal on our air craft, they work great. All the power of steel wool without scratching your metals.

          WD-40 and brillo pad.

My first thought is to try Naval Jelly. Do it in several applications.

Here's a thread that deals with rust on chrome:

Oh, and next winter, try a thin coating of WD-40 on the exposed surfaces before you put it away.

dude your avatar is freeking me out

well its the water and the aluminum foil that make the slurry if your willing to to try that its a sanding motion to remove pitting from Chrome,,Id use coke over Lemon Juice,,,wrap the handle bars with old torn up towels soaked in Coke@cola,,,or try removing the pitting with the wet Foil...

Or buy new handle bars for 40 bucks..

Mothers will only help a little

if it really bad he should just buy new ones they are cheap,,,the aluminum Foil trick works on My Chrome rims,,,but what chrome is lost is lost,,,and eventually it will just get worse.

But I watch these muscle car restoring shows and they are always hawking rust-removal products. This one looks interesting
