Howie's demotion was proof that he is not untouchable. Lurie keeps guys around too long and believes in second chances. That's always been his m.o. But between that demotion and canning Banner he has shown that he's willing to pull the trigger. Every year that goes by without a Lombardi reinforces to Lurie that he is not one of the golden owners in the league. He's feeling the sting. Unfortunately, I don't think he is a very good businessman so try as he may, he may never get it right.

That and some of the best ever wore leather helmets.

It's different. The drunks and druggies get suspended now.

Social media these days is full of vids of drunken fools. Mickey Mantle wouldn't have been able to do what he did in today's world. He would have been in rehab pronto. Same with Joe Namath. For Christ sakes look what happened when he tried to kiss Suzy Kolber and he was pretty much irrelevant by then.

But at least Howard Eskin keeps the fur coat on the sidelines tradition going for Joe.
