I feel like coaches/GM's say that all the time. Maybe I'm wrong but I certainly remember both Reid and Chip saying something similar when players have been released. I think it's a common courtesy.

Pederson definitely comes across as a bit of a goober at times, but I'm willing to give him a chance to actually coach a few games before I kill him. He certainly didn't do anything during the preseason that gave me great pause. We have a rookie coach and rookie quarterback so I am going to attempt something novel - have patience.

I don't see the relevance. The Pats run a hybrid 3-4 defense, the Eagles run a 4-3. The Patriots have a history of signing long, press CBs (Talib, Browner, etc.). Schwartz has a history of signing zone CBs that can play the ball. Different philosophies, but both of them have been successful.

As Loki wrote, he had time to think about what to say and could have expressed that concept without sounding like a doof.

EDITED TO ADD: If this is any indication of things to come, the pressers after bad beats will be brutal.
Not that I am on either side of the fence but let's not forget that Pedey lost his father a few days before the presser and that had to have been hard on him.. Maybe his mind was with his family and that is why he came off the way he did.. Can't be easy to answer football questions knowing you just lost your father.. I give him a pass on this one strictly based on that.. God bless his family and may his dad rest in peace

You don't see the relevance to Belichick trading for a guy you say the Eagles' DC doesn't like?

          Ok.

I don't see how Belichick's expertise changes whether or not Rowe is a fit for this defense. I was a fan of Rowe, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend that he was some budding superstar that we pissed away.

Schwartz isn't exactly an idiot. He's done a pretty damn good job of putting defenses together and getting them to perform. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I agree. This is a boiler plate way to say something positive about an outgoing player. This was a win-win for everyone, we wish him the best and we're working towards getting better, all he does it catch touchdowns, etc.

I fail to see how a corner or a safety have issues in a 3-4 vs. a 4-3, as opposed to a lineman, which I do see.

I, frankly, see this as a petty Howie anti-Chip purge more than anything Schwartz is doing.

I'm not saying a CB is suited to any particular front, I'm just pointing out that they run completely different defenses and have totally different philosophies on what they want out of their CBs.

I would mostly agree with your second point, but Kendricks is basically getting the same treatment, they just couldn't move his contract. He's from Howie's beloved 2012 draft.

Doesn't make sense to me that a 2d round pick is moved after one year, particularly when he has two "uncoachables" - size and speed.

What are the different philosophies they are asking from the corners? Rowe is on record as saying he had it down. Which means nothing

Forget all that. Now move on to the statement...

about how they dealt a young, talented player because they want to win now. Kept 30 somethings around over him.

Now add that they will be starting a rookie QB and, should he get injured, a QB that just out and out blows.

Seriously? You couldn't keep the kid and hope to develop him as either a corner or safety?

Nnamdi had size, speed AND a history of success when asked to do a specific thing. He was not able to do what the Eagles wanted though.

I'm not a huge fan of the trade, but it's better to get a 3rd/4th now than cut him in a year because the DC hates him.

                              That is a different thread.

We're talking about ridiculous and dumbfounding statements about why the deal was made.

I understand the losing the father thing. I feel horrible for Doug and that.

If that is the case then maybe Howie should have been the one to handle the presser and not Doug. In fact, Doug likely should not have been made available at all.

But, then again, we haven't had this much head scratching after presses since Joe Banner was let go by his childhood chum.

Jesus, it's a fucking press conference about a player who wasn't going to play and got traded. Pederson isn't even the GM, he just has to go out there and say some bullshit about it. Why is this even a big deal?

GM trades a guy. Coach says it's a win-win. Coach says the Eagles want to win rather than say the season is fucked.

                                Overanalysis ensues.
