  • Can't imagine what Chargers fans are feeling today

I'd seriously never EVERRRRRR root for that franchise to win another game.

There's no way I'd pull for them as the La chargers.

I remember that bullshit about eagles possibly going to AZ when I was a kid and how nervous I was.

Kelly Green would still be rooting for those Arizona Eagles.

LA to SD is different No? I mean, if da Raiduhs moved to Vegas, I get that, but LA is spitting distance from SD, right? what's the difference?

Still a completely different city populated by different people who don't particularly like each other. It's not as big of a divide as LA - Bay area, but still.

The distance between LA and SD is greater than that between a lot of the cities y'all live in on the right coast...

You left the city that supported you for 50+ years. Fuck you, Spanos. He and that team would be dead to me.

LA is like 2-3 hours away from SD. But it's the principal more than anything. 50+ years of support means very little I guess. Fuck them and the surfboard they rode out on.

People are heartbroken as well as angry. I know some diehard fans and I can barely look them in the eyes. I've already had a couple people suggest coming with me to LA next year when the Eagles visit to root against their former team. What a weird feeling that would be.

I don't think Spanos really wants to leave. I think this is a last gasp negotiating ploy.

Why should he want to become a tenant in a stadium controlled by another team, like the Jets? (Jets' deal is much more favorable now, but they got shafted for years) He's going to be paying rent. Anybody think Lurie is paying rent?

Why would he want to pay a more than half billion relocation fee to the NFL to move to a city that has not been proven to support even ONE team? Big market, but not a pro football town. I do think the Rams canl be somewhat successful there. It may depend on how gaudy the stadium is.

SD is 120 miles from LA. More than the distance between NYC and Phila. I don't buy the idea that the potential fan bases are the same.

I think JoeLo described ths best on the Tweeter... Chargers and SD just weren't able to get a mutually beneficial deal done. Maybe they should bring in JoeLo as consultant. One big thing is I believe this went to a popular vote referendum, whereas in Phila that never happened.

              This is a desperation move.

With him renting, I could see this as a tactic to get a re-vote in San Diego to get them back.

The City of Oakland didn't take the Raiders seriously when they moved to LA. They never got a new stadium, but renovations and upgrades brought them back to Oakland. Years later the same problem exist is why they are headed to Las Vegas...

Also the voters already rejected funding a 1.8 billion dollar stadium in San Diego, but Spanos have to put out a bluff. Clippers gone now Chargers something have to give

Meanwhile ... it's pretty clear the Raiders are moving to Las Vegas now.

The entire thing makes me sick...and doesn't seem to make any damn sense from a business standpoint. The Rams are a crapshoot to survive in that market so why would anyone with common sense think the fickle LA crowd would support another team with no history whatsoever in their city?

Why would Spanos be willing to shell out that kind of money to move from a town which has supported you strongly since '61? I hope this a power play move because I'll be absolutely stunned if the Chargers survive in LA.

Could be but with the way the mayor slammed the shit out of the chargers yesterday this may be broken beyond repair.

The football team has been a political shit storm for a while.

The previous Super Bowl in SD would not have happened without expansion of Qualcomm and there was a big fight over that ... a lawsuit to get a referendum on the expansion of the stadium resulted in the court's saying no vote was required ... they expanded the seating and got the game but the politics continued when Spanos still wanted a new stadium.

There is a group of politicians who supported raising the hotel tax and a group that didn't ... they had a referendum ... the guys supporting the new stadium with the higher hotel tax lost.

The city got what it voted for.

They did vote but I don't think spanos was ever truly committed to keeping them there.

The chargers in LA is not going to work. I bet they don't even sell out that 27k MLS rental they'll be using. I hope they do horribly in LA. Same for raiders in Vegas but I think they'll be popular. I hate long standing iconic franchises leaving their fans holding their dicks.
