Love it love it love it

      Whoever we are
      Wherever we're from
      We shoulda noticed by now
      Our behavior is dumb
      And if our chances
      Expect to improve
It's gonna take a lot more
      Than tryin' to remove
      The other race
      Or the other whatever
      From the face
      Of the planet altogether
      They call it THE EARTH
Which is a dumb kinda name
      But they named it right
      'Cause we behave the same...
      We are dumb all over!!!!!!
      Dumb all over,
      Yes we are
      Dumb all over,
      Near'n far
      Dumb all over
      Black 'n white
People, we is not wrapped tight!!!!!!

speaking of rap,,,trouble every day,,the 1st rap song ever written..

After listening to it he says, 'sounds like he is talking about now,' oh how little has really changed in the last fifty years...

He would have had a field day.

I've been going back to some of the YCDTOSA volumes that I didn't listen to as much as 1 and 2. I don't really like the second disc of 4, but the first is great. The take me out to the ballgame on that volume also cracks me up.

              Times seem turbulent now.

I think I am a little too young to fully appreciate how turbulent things were back in the late 1960s.

I think it was worse then.

President assassinated, his brother the senator assassinated, MLK assassinated.

Vietnam. Nixon. Major riots in multiple cities.

And every young man had the risk of being conscripted, while people with means (like Trump) could evade the draft legally.

Things were REALLY f*d up back then.

Overall the music was better, IMO. We have some good artists nowadays but back then (late 60's - early 70's) was the peak of the music industry, IMO.

So I don't think we are quite in the same spot as back in the day. Although... having said that things could always get worse.

Now that song was about the Watts riots, but today it could be terrorist attacks or school shootings, and the last part is what has really not improved and has become worse in so many ways...

You know we got to sit around at home
                And watch this thing begin
But I bet there won't be many live
                To see it really end
'Cause the fire in the street
Ain't like the fire in the heart
And in the eyes of all these people
Don't you know that this could start
On any street in any town
In any state if any clown
Decides that now's the time to fight
For some ideal he thinks is right
And if a million more agree
                There ain't no Great Society
As it applies to you and me
                Our country isn't free
And the law refuses to see
If all that you can ever be
                Is just a lousy janitor
Unless your uncle owns a store
You know that five in every four
Just won't amount to nothin' more
Gonna watch the rats go across the floor
And make up songs about being poor

                Blow your harmonica, son!

Frank would be all over this shit

                  Republicans is fine
                  If you're a multi-millionaire
                  Democrats is fair
If all you own is what you wear
                  Neither of 'em's REALLY right
                  'Cause neither of 'em CARE
                  'Bout that Hot-Plate Heaven
                  'Cause they ain't been there

                  They really oughta go
'N find out how the hall-way smell -
                  They'd benefit to know
'Bout what the bums in there could tell
                  I guess we're only dreamin'
                  But I s'pose it's just as well
That's ALL you get to dream
                  Up in the Green Hotel

                  Nature didn't put me here
                  An' neither did my fate
It musta been some evil ol'
                  Republican candidate
                  He's over there in Washington
But I wish he was in HELL
                  'Cause I'm in Hot-Plate Heaven
                  At the Green Hotel

                  Things is slightly better now
                  They hope we will forget
                  The misery of 'TRICKLE DOWN'
                  An' jelly-bean etiquette
                  The Regal Presidential Style
                  Has simply not worn well
                  But neither has my rags
