  • Eagles Cap Situation as of Jan. 31

The Philadelphia Eagles head into the 2017 offseason with a projected $7.2 million in salary cap space, which doesn't count the $7.9 million in rollover cap from last offseason.

With a salary cap floor expected to be between $166 to $170 million this offseason, the Eagles are projected to have between $10-14 million in cap space (pending on how much the Eagles decide to rollover this offseason).

    Five biggest cap hits:

Jason Peters ($11.2 million), Lane Johnson ($10 million), Fletcher Cox ($9.4 million), Vinny Curry ($9 million), Connor Barwin ($8.3 million).

    Five biggest cap saves:

Peters ($9.2 million), Barwin ($7.75 million), Brandon Graham ($5.5 million), Ryan Mathews ($4 million), Darren Sproles ($4 million).

Barwin is toast. Same with Mathews. No way can Eagles can cut Peters, he had a great year minus the false starts. Sproles can maybe be traded for a pick but I love him so I am skeptical there.

Did they not get money back from Lane missing games or is it not structured that way?

Edit: I guess that would've applied to last year's cap, anyway, even if they did.

Cap space is no problem. They can easily get to 30 -40 million below if needed.

Make Peters Restructure, he will not get that kind of money anywhere else.

Peters restructures or peace, Barwiff - peace, Ryan "always broken" Matthews - peace.

Must retain Cox, Curry, Graham, and Johnson.

This organization has a rich 21st century history of being salary cap champions. I'm not worried.

Peters will never restructure his contract. He is the tenth highest paid tackle in the league coming off his ninth Pro Bowl appearance in ten seasons. He is scheduled to earn ten mill next season and another team desperate for help at the second most important position in the league would certainly pony up more than that for a one year rental of this player. Especially since a team could give him a multi-year deal that rolls a 7-10 million signing bonus over the stretch of two to three seasons. That bonus, combined with roster bonuses and a salary would definitely eclipse the money he is owed by the Eagles.

Roseman will have to suck it up and overpay for him in 2017 or let him walk. My guess is they leave well enough alone and try to find a guy in the middle rounds to compete with Big V for the RT position in 2018.

Besides, if the Eagles ride out the deal they will probably get a compensatory pick in 2019 should Peters decide to extend his career elsewhere once the deal is done.

                      There will be no paycut.

Much as I hate to back the cod(piece)father [(c) to Raptor]... restructuring is not necessarily a pay cut.

Hell no- Peters shouldn't restructure. He was arguably a top 3 LT in the NFL this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see this shitbag of a franchise cut him when the teams number one goal right now should be to protect their franchise QB (something Peters does damn well).

But that typically pushes guaranteed money further down the road, no? You don't want to still be paying him once he's totally done.

Depends on how you structure it, I suppose. I actually thought what it does is take salary off the cap and pay guaranteed money up front that counts on the cap down the road in smaller increments.

But I'm hardly an accountant or a cap specialist.

All I know is that big contract players sometimes do it to help the team's accounting game (mostly QBs).
