I don't have one yet but plan to get one once my traditional one goes . I hear they are about twice the price as the traditional tanks but way more efficient and worth the extra cost. There is no warm up time either. You turn the hot water dial and get hot water right away.

About 15 years ago I was looking into one. My plumber at the time (who i trust ) dissuaded me against putting one in. I am sure they are a lot better now than they were then.

I think it depends on your peak demand, etc. They have no reserve capacity but if the unit can handle your peak demand there is little doubt to me that it is more energy and space efficient.

I'm having one installed later this year. We have a small house and it's just two of us so that should be plenty. Our heater right now is outside our house in an attached shed. We made it through one winter without the pipes freezing but we don't want to press our luck.

Make sure your water is not too hard. It will ruin the elements/heat exchanger. Get a water softener if needed.

My father and I use to install them. Unlimited hot water on demand is great. The tankless heater itself isn't outrageous financially, but the venting is. Make sure the placement is close to an exterior wall as possible. I'm installing one this year in my home.

Also check with your electric or gas company for rebates.
500 internet fights, that's the number I figured when I first joined igglephans. 500 internet fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate internet-tough guy. You need them for experience, to develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then...after...you realize that's what you are.

Going with external natural gas. No venting needed.
