Has been The Open for 150 years

Only in the US did it get called the British Open.
Least that's the way I understand it.
John Erlichman, one of President Richard Nixon's closest aides, has admitted America's "War on Drugs" was a hoax designed to vilify and disrupt "the antiwar left and black people" when it was launched in 1971.

No up to a few years ago even the networks called it the British Open because that's what it is.

And the winner is announced as "The Champion Golfer of the Year" ... as if there is no other champion golfer that year.

Conceit knows no bounds at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club.

Um. No. Which networks called it that 150 years ago?

Here, in the papers and on TV, they refer to it as The Open.
