2018 Mock Draft
20. Philadelphia Eagles: Derrius Guice, RB, LSU
Leading up to the 2017 draft, one of the most curious teams to watch was the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite being a solid team that did major work in free agency — eliminating wide receiver as an option for a high pick in the process — they still had holes that they really needed to address on both sides of the ball. In the end, they leaned towards helping to improve their defense with their early picks, especially for the future.
They started by taking Derek Barnett in the first round, adding a luxury piece to an already good group up front. Sidney Jones then came to them in the second round. Despite his injury that will keep him out for all of 2017, this was still a steal as he could be the best corner in the 2017 class. They continued later on, but one position they failed to address was running back as it pertains to a feature back. They signed LeGarrette Blount for this season, but still need a future at the position.
Derrius Guice out of LSU would most certainly give them that. Guice is every bit as dominant as Leonard Fournette was for the Tigers and has the same upside at the pro level. He can break away with nice speed, make guys miss in the open field and also just plow through tackles if that’s what’s called for. He’d add another dynamic to the Carson Wentz led offense and really help take this group to another level.
