But then check this one out. Tremendous read about American volunteers fighting with the Communists against Franco and the fascists in the Spanish Civil War.

The Spanish Civil War was tragic and doesn't get discussed enough. Very much the prelude to WWII.

I feel that it is somewhat appropriate for Franco to remain in the Valley of the Fallen - that it is a reminder of those he killed rather than a tribute. But I have to defer to the Spaniards judgement.
I will have to read that book.

The Nazis helped Franco out a lot. Spain was sort of their test run for WWII.

If you ever get to Madrid check out Picasso's painting Guernica. It was painted by him as a response to the Nazis bombing the town.

Have a Guernica poster. Doubt I'll ever get to Madrid but will see for sure if I do.

For Whom The Bell Tolls is an absolute must read. Top twenty American novel ever. Also seriously recommend the non-fiction Spain in out Hearts. Both on Audible if you do audiobooks.
