  • How the officials are killing this game

    (at least for me)

Last night, Cards second possession. Once again they easily drive down inside the red zone. First down and tight end Gresham is mugged by the defender; no flag thrown. Next play is completed pass, but Cards lineman is called for hands to the face.

I'm like.....what the fuck? Can't they ever call a game legitimately? Is there some kind of law that the cowpies can't go down 14-0?

I turned off the game and watched The Deuce from Sunday on demand. More enjoyable, no stress, no yelling at tv.

it's a combination of officiating and the rules. The rules are sometimes baffling (See Shepard's catch or the Lions 10 second runoff) and run counter to the "smell test." Worse though, is the officiating which gets either excessive and bogs down the game or is utterly inconsistent. The college product is so much better in this regard.

I understand why this had to happen, but the player safety aspects were the beginning of the end. For whatever reason, a bad hit has triggered refs to throw flags for a variety of ticky-tack penalties that would have been called "letting them play" 10 years ago. A little contact by the DB isn't a bad thing.

    And the holding calls...ugh.
