In the humble words of Rex Tillerson......

You are a fucking moron. Don't try to pull any pseudo-intellectual crap on me. I guarantee I'm better educated in both life and academia than you.

    No murders?

How about (just off the top of my head)

    1. Unarmed black guy shot in back while running away.

    2. Black guy sitting in car, hands in plain sight, child in rear, blown away by cop.

    3. Woman cop facing black motorist, three male cops surrounding guy and helicopter overhead. She "feels threatened" so she blows the guy away.

    4. Young white man, downs syndrome. Forcefully removed from half full movie theater by 3 off duty cops. He dies from experience.

    5. White guy in Fairtfax, standing in front doorway, unarmed. Blown away by police gunfire. Hey, but at least they didn't fire the tank they had parked in his front yard!

    6. Guy in NY, choked to death by cop for selling loosies.

And not one single conviction for even littering for theses murdering assholes.

ps......By chance, you wouldn't happen to be a cop, would you?

I think this makes my point. If people are really watching less football because of the anthem issues, football in general isn't as appealing to them anymore for other reasons.

The anthem is/was pretty much a perfunctory aspect of the broadcast/event unless there is a performer of some merit. I find it really hard to believe that fans would use it and player's standing/kneeling during it as their only reason for watching less football.

It's a nice scapegoat and I suppose it's a the final straw for some fans already disinterested but it's not the root cause.

As to Jut's point - fixing the real problems probably isn't that appealing.

Growing injuries/awareness of injuries are hurting the game but the rule changes have cause their own set of backlash as well.

Poor behavior by players is hurting the game, but the kangaroo court system that arbitrarily doles out punishment and typically at a point after the NFL already looks bad isn't helping. Let along the hypocrisy in people like Jerry Jones who want players to respect the flag but cares little for how they respect other people off the field as long as they win.

Over-commercialization and 27/7/365 in-your-face NFL football has at least caused me to have football fatigue - and that's not going to end.

Ratings have been declining in the NFL for the last three years, preparing three protests. And they have been declining in MLB, NHL, NASCAR, but not as much in the NBA. The younger generations are not watching these sports like they used to for the reasons you point out and more. And some maroons are ignoring all this to crow about stupid political "victories" as if getting players to stand is actually accomplishing something.

but why not? Accepting your point as true, then why wouldn't these guys want to fix it? No one wants to be the guy bailing the water out of the boat, but someone's gotta do it so you can plug the leak.

What's not appealing enough to protect your business?

The "facts" you bring are headlines or snippets of what really occurred. Rather than comment on each now take the time to bring forth actual links so we can know what we are both talking about rather than me surmising the incident form your brief statement.

Well, #1 there may be no fixing it. I think it's entirely possible that some of the appeal has gone and the bigger issue for football is how to deal with having a smaller slice of the entertainment pie than they're used to.

But, as Richard Thaler might tell you, people don't always make sound business decisions and I think there is more than enough evidence to support that type of behavior in the NFL.

The NFL is typically about quick fixes, win now, and don't rock the boat thinking. I wouldn't find it surprising at all if "fixing this anthem issue" is the path the owners take to try to solve the larger problem.

Oh please ... they have smarter marketing people than you working there and they know they have bigger problems than the anthem controversy.

But that doesn't invalidate thinking that an already suffering product is not being helped by this anthem situation.

Macy's dumped Trump's products when he offended their Hispanic customers ... you looked at their stock lately ... Trump really wasn't that big a problem, but they still reacted.

                      And the NFL is reacting.

                        Just go fuck off asshole

                        Obviusly, you have nothing.

I know, I just made those examples up. Blindness like yours is what perpetuates this situation. All my examples are well documented.

God knows, there’s no such thing as a bad cop.

We'll see what they do. So far, all of their "fixes" have resulted in declining viewership. Maybe they helped mitigate against greater decline and it's going to continue to fall regardless.

Football used to stand for toughness, America, and uniting through sports. Now it stands for concussions, politics, and CTE. Speaking as the father of a 16 year old boy, he doesn't give a shit any more. No amount of standing, sitting, kneeling is gonna solve this problem.

                              No it doesn't

Nobody watches the game to watch the anthem ... but that doesn't mean that the negativity of the anthem issue with some of their fans is a problem the NFL wants to have added on top of the others they have (MY point).

You just want to make up some shit about them being so stupid that they're rubbing their hands together and saying:

"Yesssss ... yessss ... we'll make this the scapegoat for other legit problems and the legit ones will go way."

this paper comes up in discussions a bit, and is worth citing. the guy who wrote it, a black professor at harvard, said the results were some of the most surprising he's ever come across. it is worth noting that data are a problem and that this is just one point on the research spectrum, but i'm willing to admit that police brutality isn't all about race, and that the media has its bias in what it reports.

that being said, i think you have to take into account the results of other research, which show the difficulties that black people have doing things like looking for a job. people with black-sounding names are less likely to get callbacks, and those that change their names to white-sounding names see their luck improve. white felons have better luck getting callbacks than black non-felons. this would fall under the umbrella of the issues that players are protesting. i get that kaepernick looked like a fool wearing pig socks and a castro t-shirt, but i know what these guys are upset about, and i'm lucky that i've never had to deal with prejudice in something as banal as the job market.

anyway, terpeagle is right as to why viewership is down. viewing habits are changing. the NFL oversaturated the market and the novelty to instant access is wearing off. though the NFL's ratings are down a bit, their share among all TV viewing has remained constant.
