  • Bob Gibson RIP

He was a saint in my father’s household.

52 years to the day he struck out 17 Detroit Tigers in a World Series game. I have many memories of watching Gibson pitch. One wasn’t the day we drove four hours for a twinight doubleheader at Connie Mack. We got Nelson Briles and some other shmoe instead.

He pitched when men were men and he was the definitely the man.

When men were men and if a batter crowded the plate he was guaranteed a close shave by a high heater.
I can imagine that he would have contributed quite a bit of his salary to the league as a result of how he would have pitched someone if they had flipped their bat in a previous trip to the plate.
    RIP Mr. Gibson
John Erlichman, one of President Richard Nixon's closest aides, has admitted America's "War on Drugs" was a hoax designed to vilify and disrupt "the antiwar left and black people" when it was launched in 1971.
