  • Saturday's Game is not a Glorified Exhibition Game

    1. The outcome will likely impact seeding for one or both teams. Seeding not only affects playoff matchups, it also dictates were games are played.

    2. Unlike Pre-Season games, there will only be 46 players active for each team (as opposed to 90+ in pre-season). This makes it impossible to bench all players who contribute each week.

    3. Injuries. Contributors will be playing -- and could get hurt and affect the playoffs.

I get that the game is not as meaningful as most regular season games, but to say that it is meaningless is not at all accurate.

Regarding #1: for the eagles it affects seeding as follows:

Eagles play Tampa in every possible win/loss combo for week 18 EXCEPT:

If SF, AZ, CAR each win, then eagles play AZ regardless of PHI/DAL game result
If LA and ATL and DAL wins, regardless of any other games, eagles play LA
If SF, SEA, CAR, DAL win then PHL plays LA
If SF, SEA, CAR, DAL win then PHL plays DAL.
