Politicians suck. Red, blue, green. They laugh at people who buy into their divisive bs. They actually laugh at them while they take their money. On both sides. Trust me I've seen it.

In this Ukraine thing, I think it's important to look at what Putin's trying to do: Destroy NATO. So our strategy should be to keep NATO united and powerful. That means that the sanctions (oil, for example) have to be okay with NATO, who gets most of their oil from Russia. If you do a sanction like this unilaterally, you lose unification of NATO. Same for banning Russia from SWIFT (which frankly is really a temporary annoyance for Russia because there are work arounds), if you ban them from SWIFT immediately, you piss some NATO states off because they get money from Russia for goods. So strategically, you have to work the alliance.

Our US approach has to be strategic. People who clamor for this action or decry lack of action are not thinking long range. Putin is trying to fuck himself, so we have to help him. If you'd rather use this event to bitch and moan about Trump or Biden, be my guest. But it's counterproductive to what we can really get done versus Russia. And China, btw.
